Astronomers Afraid of the Dark
2024 | mixed media on paper
thirty-six pieces, each 21 x 29,7 cm (11.7“ x 8.3“)
The abundance of clear nights in the high desert makes me relish the dark skies. This series, with fleetingly impulsive abstract washes of color and dustings of pigment, is inspired by varied attitudes of the night and its myriad associations: fear, melancholy, the supernatural, future predictions, and past events viewed in the present (since looking at the stars is also a look back in time)—awed moments of wonder that continue to connect us.
