These painted sculptural forms are inspired by the shapes and colors of the high curbs that are a distinctive feature of Silver City’s historic downtown district, and their use as barriers that were built to manage flooding. The curbs are perhaps one of the most prominent epitomes of our relationship to extreme weather conditions in the area. Their infrastructure can symbolize awareness of ecological challenges and the need for sustainable practices, highlighting how communities can shape their living spaces in ways that respect and respond to natural elements, and which also serve as a measure of protection.
