An old fountain at the medieval wall of an Italian Alpine town seemed neglected. The faded sky blue paint on its carved out ceiling is powdered in steaks of white mineral residue, left over from years of exposure to water. These naturally-occurring mineral formations create incidental images of skyscapes: markings appear above us like clouds against a cerulean-painted background. The surrounding valley is narrow. Lush vegetation and jagged rock faces hang like curtains above. Only select segments of the sky are visible. These combined aspects inspired me to interact with this public work artistically, creating a “soft” intervention for the duration of a few days.
